This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
Account Information: Full name, phone number, home district, profile picture, status/mood.
User Content: Posts, comments, messages, and any other content you submit.
Interests: Optional interests you choose to share (e.g., basketball, music).
1.2 Information Automatically Collected
Location Data: Precise GPS location to show nearby users and places. Location is only collected when you are visible to others.
Usage Data: How you interact with the app (messages sent, posts liked, etc.).
IP Address: For security and analytics purposes.
1.3 Push Notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications for new messages, likes, comments, and new users nearby.
You can opt out of push notifications in your device settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
To connect you with people and places near you.
To enable chat, posts, comments, and likes.
To calculate distances and show nearby users.
To send push notifications you opt into.
To improve app performance and user experience.
To detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to power SpotMe:
Supabase: Database and authentication
Google Firebase: Push notifications
Google Cloud Platform: Hosting and infrastructure
These services have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
4. How We Share Your Information
With Other Users: Your profile (name, district, status, profile picture) is visible to other users when you are visible. Your location is shared as distance only, not exact coordinates.
With Service Providers: We use Supabase (database), Google Firebase (push notifications), and Google Cloud Platform (hosting).
Legal Compliance: When required by law or to protect our rights.
Business Transfers: In case of merger or acquisition.
We do NOT sell your personal data to third parties.
5. Your Data & Privacy Controls
5.1 Visibility Controls
Visible Mode: Other users can see you in Nearby, Discover, and can message you.
Invisible Mode: You appear offline. No one can see you or message you.
5.2 Data Deletion
Delete Account: You can permanently delete your account from Profile → Delete Account. This removes all your data (posts, comments, messages, conversations).
Delete Messages: You can delete your own messages via long press.
Delete Posts: You can delete your own posts anytime.
5.3 Location
Location is only collected when you are in Visible mode.
You can revoke location permission anytime in your device settings.
We only store your last known location; no historical tracking.
6. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including:
HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
Supabase Row Level Security (RLS) for database access
Regular security audits
No plain-text storage of sensitive data
However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
7. Cookies
We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies.
8. Children's Privacy
SpotMe is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
9. International Users
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries where our servers are located.
By using SpotMe, you consent to this transfer.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by
posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last Updated" date.
